First Suspected case of coronavirus in Angeles City

Although unconfirmed there are now reports of at least one case of coronavirus in Angeles City. Our sources tell us that one Chinese patient at an as yet unnamed hospital in Angeles has shown symptoms of the virus and has been moved to a segregated unit of the hospital. Whilst it is again important to emphasise that the case is unconfirmed, if it does turn out to be a coronavirus infection it will bring into question government policy of still allowing not only planes from China, but also Hong Kong and Macao to still be allowed to land at Clark International Airport. Now might be the time to forget the current spat with the USA on visas, and concentrate on the health of residents and citizens alike. UPDATE according to a doctor affiliated with AUF the patient tested negative to coronavirus

Blue Taxis in – Trikes out

For years there was always something drastically missing for a city as big as Ángeles , and that was a reliable taxi service. Obviously we’ve had GrabTaxi for a while, but alas it did not inspire a Rebel Alliance against the Trike Driving Mafia off Ángeles. But now the Blue Taxis have arrived, and they have meters!!! Now a ride that might cost anywhere between 150-250 Peso, depending on the time of night, and of course mood of the trike driver will come in at under 200 PHP. Now there are many reasons why a taxi service is great news for Angeles, such as ease of getting to the airport, and room to bring home your groceries, but most importantly not having to deal with trike drivers. Trike drivers in Angeles are jerks. Sadly the crab mentality has hit immediately with the trike drivers rebelling against their more popular blue cousins, with

Alaska Bar – Subic Bay

Alaska Bar/Club is located on National Highway, Barrio Baretto, Olongapo, Subic Bay, about halfway up the strip. We’re reviewing this bar simply because we went there, but it barely warrants any kind of mention. On entrance to Alaska Bar there were no other customers, one waitresses, and four very bored looking dancers. The waitress was extremely pushy with regards to drinks, and well pretty much everything. But as annoying as the waitress was, the dancers were even worse. Insulting, zero bants, and the reason we stayed for only 5 minutes. Maybe we caught Alaska Bar in a bad night, but I can only judge a horse on the races it’s run. Alaska Bar is the worst bar in Subic Bay. Don’t go to Alaska Bar Subic Bay!

Hotzone – Subic Bay

If you’re fresh off the boat in Olongapo then the place to get your party jollies in National Highway Barrio Baretto. It’s not exactly walking street (it is not pedestrianised at all), but it’s a street full of great bars to get down and dirty. Hot Zone is about halfway down the strip on 55 Barrio Baretto and without doubt one of the craziest bars on the strip. Toilet in Hot Zone The bar is owned, or at least managed by a cool American guy who seemed to be partying harder than anyone else (always a good sign for a bar). The waitresses at Hotzone are super cheeky, fun, but most importantly not overtly pushy on drinks. Partying in Hot Zone Effort has also been made with the dancers, who are all dressed in swimming costumes, and actually look like they want to be there. Hot Zone, Subic Bay Happy hour drinks are 75, regular drinks

Blue Rock Resort – Subic Bay

Blue rock resort is one of the many resorts that litter Baloy Long Beach of Subic Bay. I’ve never stayed here, as it’s beachside rooms inflate the price compared to say, Wild Orchid. It also has a swimming pool that is so small to deem it pointless. Blue Rock Resort It does though have a great beachside restaurant! Located at the far side of the beach on the road leading up to bar street, Blue Rock has amazing big set up of tables facing the ocean. The menu is a little bit overbearing, having literally hundreds of dishes (such as Mexican), but if you know what to order, you’re gonna have a good day. It’s all about the seafood at Blue Rock, Subic, with yellow and blue fin tuna, lots of local fish, and amazing oysters. My personal welcome of choice when I order here are blue fin tuna sashimi, kinilaw

Wild Orchid – Subic Bay

Wild Orchid is one of the best hotels in Angeles City, and probably the best in Subic Bay. Wild Orchid isn’t exactly on the Baloy Lomg Beach, but it’s near enough the good restaurants, the beach, and of course the big street with all the bars of Barrio Barretto As well as the poolside bar (Scalliwags) there’s a second indoor bar called Moby Dicks, and of course the best damned swimming pool in Subic Bay. Wild Orchid - Subic Bay The poolside bar (Scalliwags Bar) doesn’t require you to be resident in the hotel, and they make a whole heap of great cocktails. Their Bloody Mary will quench any hangover. Bloody Mary at Wild Orchid There’s a range of rooms, which are usually cheaper on the door than by booking online that start from about $60 a night. Fly the bus to Angeles City also leaves from here. Room rates at Wild Orchid,,

Pampanga Food Street

Clark Freeport now has its very own genuine Food Street to sample the best cuisine of Pampanga. Created by the Clark Development Corporation ánd located on Cardinal Santos Street, next the grounds currently hosting the Rugby portion of the SEA Games. The street, which has been open since late 2018 has cuisines from across Asia, as well as Filipino favourites like Inihaw, lechon, and everyone’s favourite desert halo-halo. Inihaw at Pampanga Food Street Alas getting to Pampanga Food Street will require you having your own vehicle, as taxis and trikes are not allowed in the grounds. During the current south-east Asian Games there is also a fair, and live music on most nights. A very pleasant addition to the Angeles City restaurant and food scene. I

(old) Faming Bar

To be declared the worst at something is almost as hard as being the best, it takes effort. If the Old Flaming Bar isn’t the worst bar in Angeles City, please tell me what is. Angeles is rightly famous for its pretty girls in their girly bars. But, what happens when said girls are too old even for Subic Bay? Are they sent out to pasture? No, they are send to Old Flaming Bar. Flaming is situated almost opposite the Wild Orchid Hotel, not all that far from crack alley (which has now been gentrified) and consists of ladies who should have long since retired beconing in punters and offering their wares. Let’s just say that compared to other bars everything here is cheaper, except for the drinks..... If you’re shopping on a budget, you may well like it here, or if you kind of want to just “go on safari”. Ironically it used to

Score Birds -Angeles City

Score Birds in Angeles City is most famous for its hotel, and of course it’s Saturday Bikini competition! But Scorebirds also has a great little bar and restaurant, that make a very nice change from fields. The bar área is located over two floors, with drink prices being on the cheaper end of the spectrum. The food menú is classic fare, with the nachos being particularly good. Score Birds Hotel nachos Most nights you can be assured of a quiet chilled evening at the bar, although are known to do the odd film night, and of course there’s the infamous bikini contest. Every Saturday between 2-6pm all the prettiest girls from the bars of Ángeles City coverage on the swimming area to decide the best of the best. It’s 500 entry (consumables), and is a rather pleasant way to spend a Saturday. Bikini competition at Score Birds Hotel Scorebirds Hotel is also decently priced,

La Bamba Cantina

La Bamba Cantina is one of the first bars as you enter Walking Street, so therefore a good place to begin happy drinkies. One of the longest running girly bars on the street that started its life as “Hobo Bar”, before morphing into its current incarnation. Another bar that has a centrally placed dance floor surrounded by stools, this meaning you are right in the middle of the action. Beers are cheap enough at 75 Peso a local drink at happy hour, to 110 at other times. Bar fine is 3k........ La Bamba Ángeles Menú Music here is actually quite decent and upbeat (compared to other bars on Fields), and they even have a signature cocktail. Allegedly at least La Bamba makes the best Frozen Margaritas in Angeles! You’ll need to judge that one by yourselves..... Like any bar on Fields the girls change a lot, but they’re usually a lot
